Features, facts and tips for Big Bass Bonanza
Fishing-themed slots were already popular long before Big Bass Bonanza came along, and if you’re a seasoned player, you might think this 10-line slot is an evolution or a clone of Reel Time Gaming’s classic 2014 title, Fishin’ Frenzy.
However, opinions aside, there’s no doubt that the iconic fisherman character, the catchy name and the carefully designed gameplay are some of the reasons why the Big Bass Bonanza slot became one of the most successful casino games.
However, just because it’s popular doesn’t mean everyone plays it well. Do you know how often the free spins features actually trigger, or rather, how long you’ll need to play to trigger them? Read on and don’t miss our experts’ insights on the Big Bass Bonanza slot!
It only takes 12 minutes
Whilst it’s true that the fish symbols containing money add an element of interest to the base game that other slots lacking such incentives don’t have, what we’re all hoping to trigger when playing the Big Bass Bonanza slot is the unique and exclusive free spins bonus.
But how often will you manage to land 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols to trigger 10, 15 or 20 free spins (respectively)? The answer to that question can help you decide whether Big Bass Bonanza is the right slot for you and how much time and money you’re willing to spend to trigger the feature.
The game is programmed to trigger the bonus feature once every 113 spins, on average. This means it can sometimes take longer, and sometimes less time – it all depends on luck! We decided to test this on the Spanish version of the game, and, although luck wasn’t quite on our side, we managed to trigger the free spins after just over 12 minutes, on spin number 164.
Of course, this experiment isn’t guaranteed to happen in your own game: you might take 200 spins to trigger the feature, or you might get lucky and hit it within the first 50! Chance, as always, is what decides.
You’ve no doubt seen the free spins feature in action before, but here’s a quick reminder of how it works: as you’ll see, landing fishermen takes you through up to four game levels, and at each level you’re awarded 10 additional free spins with multipliers of 2x, 3x or 10x. In our experiment, during the first ten free spins, we managed to collect 4 fishermen, which earned us 10 additional free spins with a 2x multiplier. In total, that made 20 free spins!
The more fishermen, the more money
The fisherman symbol only appears during the free spins rounds, and he’s not just the Wild symbol – he’s also the key to collecting the money symbols: the fish with a euro amount underneath them, whose value can range from x10 to x2000. Without a fisherman to collect them, the fish are worth nothing!
But what most players don’t realise is that each additional fisherman collects his own money symbols. In other words, if you have 3 fish with a total value of €10, one fisherman collects the €10; two fishermen mean €20, and so on. In theory, there’s no limit to the number of fishermen that can appear, although in practice it’s rare to get more than one.
If you land a fisherman but there are no fish on the reels, there’s a chance the fisherman will throw a stick of dynamite and turn some regular symbols into fish – another of those details that helped make this game such a hit.
Four years at the top (and counting)
Big Bass Bonanza shot straight to the top of the charts when it was launched in December 2020, and since then it has never left the podium of the most popular slots, either at BetLabel or at many other casinos. Quite an achievement!
As of 2024, the Big Bass Bonanza slot may not hold the top spot, but it remains comfortably on the podium, and is now joined by another release in the series, the Big Bass Splash slot. Never before has a series of online slots dominated the top spots in this way!
